My name is Dan Hasty, a play-by-play broadcaster based in Grand Rapids. My broadcasting infatuation began as a child. I grew up admiring legendary Detroit Tigers radio voice Ernie Harwell. It was through Ernie that I fell in love with baseball and calling sports on radio and television.
With interests in sports and public speaking, I pursued a career in broadcast journalism in college. At Central Michigan University, I graduated with honors from the School of Broadcast Journalism, taking home an award for "Best in Sports" given by 91.5 WMHW-FM — the campus radio station.
After College, I served various broadcast roles with the Great Lakes Loons, Wake Forest Demon Deacons, and Houston Cougars (IMG College) before joining 97.1 WXYT-FM in Detroit, Michigan. While with "The Ticket," I assisted in a variety of roles for the station, including as a Network Studio Host for the Detroit Lions from 2013-2015, as well as a Sports Anchor, Reporter, Producer, and Talk Show Host.
Being always interested in Play-by-Play, I accepted the lead broadcast position for the West Michigan Whitecaps, a Detroit Tigers affiliate of the Midwest League in suburban Grand Rapids, Michigan. I was named the Midwest League’s Broadcaster of the Year by my peers in 2017.
I also work in college basketball, having called games for Saginaw Valley State University in 2017-2018 before taking over as the Voice of Detroit Mercy Men's Basketball, a Division 1 member of the Horizon League in Detroit, Michigan. In 2024, I became the Voice of the Grand Rapids Rise of the Pro Volleyball Federation.
In total, I have collected six awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters for Play-by-Play and Podcast Hosting.
I am married to my lovely wife Angelina, and we live in Grand Rapids with our daughter, Josie, and a female Golden Retriever named "Tessie" — whom we rescued from an animal shelter. My family has been in Grand Rapids ever since.
